Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Overview
Join Xylem as a Sr. Diesel Technician and earn a $2,500 sign‑on bonus. This role focuses on troubleshooting, maintaining, servicing, and repairing pump and support equipment at customer sites across Minnesota in a safe and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and servicing on Godwin fleet equipment.
- Troubleshoot diesel engines, electrical systems, and pump problems.
- Rebuild diesel engines and pump ends.
- Assist customers and Xylem personnel with setting up pumping systems on job sites.
- Initial inspection and damage diagnosis of fleet equipment; report to Service Manager.
- Test repaired equipment for proper operation and quality.
- Perform preventative maintenance on company vehicles and shop support equipment.
- Conduct diagnostic checks using computer technology.
- Participate in a weekly on‑call rotation to support customers after hours.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Engage in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.
- 3–5 years of diesel experience or equivalent education and training.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Good mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose basic mechanical problems.
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues (preferred).
- Thorough understanding of equipment repair and maintenance methods, materials, tools, and techniques.
- Basic understanding of pump station electrical controls and monitoring devices.
- General DC electric and circuit testing skills.
- General diesel engine component location and identification.
- CDL Class B considered a plus.
- Safety practices and procedures.
- Independent work style with little supervision; self‑motivated and self‑directed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with customers, co‑workers, and managers.
Salary range: $28/hr – $34/hr xylem offers a competitive total compensation package, including health, dental, vision plans, a 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and paid volunteer program participation.
