Overview
Assistant / Associate Professor of English - Creative Writing. The Department of English at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a specialization in creative writing to begin August 2026. We are seeking an accomplished creative writer with an MFA or PhD in Creative Writing, English, or closely related disciplines.
The successful candidate should have an accomplished record of publication, an active program of creative or scholarly output, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching. We are open to candidates with a wide range of genre or field specialties and are particularly interested in candidates who possess expertise in course and program development in creative writing. Additional preferred qualifications include a minimum of three years’ experience teaching in North American-style higher education institutions and experience with international student populations.
- Teach a six-course annual load (3/3) in creative writing and first-year academic writing, with the possibility of teaching literature courses depending on qualifications.
- Contribute to the creative and intellectual life of the department and university through meaningful service, including organizing workshops or events, student mentoring, and participation in shared governance responsibilities.
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and pursue an active program of research or creative work.
- MFA or PhD in Creative Writing or English (or a closely related discipline)
- Significant record of publications commensurate with rank
- Teaching experience in creative writing at the college level
- Experience in curriculum and program development in creative writing
- A minimum of three years’ experience teaching in North American-style higher education institutions
- Experience with international student populations
