Company Description University of the Arts Sharjah (UAS) is a leading creative institution founded by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with a dedicated focus on excellence in the Performing and Visual Arts. The University hosts the Performing Arts Academy and the Visual Arts Academy across two purpose-built campuses, encompassing five colleges:
Theatre, Music, Film, Design, and Fine Arts. UAS offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs to a diverse and growing community of more than 600 students, supported by around 100 faculty members. Through rigorous academic curricula, practical training, and interdisciplinary collaboration, UAS prepares emerging artists, performers, designers, and creative leaders. Rooted in Sharjah’s cultural vision, the University promotes creativity, cultural dialogue, and professional excellence locally and internationally.
Role Description The Dean, College of Film is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Sharjah, responsible for the overall academic, strategic, and operational direction of the College of Film. The Dean oversees curriculum development, program review, and quality assurance to ensure that film programs align with international standards and the University’s mission. This role includes recruiting, mentoring, and evaluating faculty and staff;
fostering a collaborative, inclusive learning environment; and encouraging innovative teaching, research, and creative practice in film and related disciplines. The Dean manages budgets and resources, contributes to accreditation and policy development, and builds partnerships with industry, cultural institutions, and other academic entities to enhance student opportunities and visibility of the College. Day-to-day activities involve engaging with students, leading committees, representing the College in University governance, and advancing initiatives that strengthen research, community engagement, and global outreach in film education.
- Advanced academic qualifications in Film, Media Studies, or a closely related field (PhD or equivalent terminal degree preferred), combined with a substantial record of teaching, research, and professional practice.
- Proven academic leadership experience, such as serving as department chair, program director, or dean, with strengths in strategic planning, curriculum development, and quality assurance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage people and resources, including experience in budgeting, staffing, performance evaluation, and fostering an inclusive, collaborative work environment.
- Strong understanding of contemporary film practices, production processes, and emerging technologies, with the ability to integrate industry-relevant skills and creative innovation into academic programs.
- Experience promoting student success through mentorship, academic advising, and support for internships, professional networking, and career pathways in film and related sectors.
- Evidence of successful collaboration with industry partners, cultural organizations, festivals, and international institutions, contributing to outreach, community engagement, and global visibility.
