General Description
The Wind Turbine Specialist serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for wind turbine technology and its integration within utility‑scale wind projects. The role ensures that the selection, procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of wind turbines are carried out in a technically sound, safe, cost‑effective, and reliable manner. This position bridges the gap between engineering design, OEM expertise, site execution, and performance management with the goal of maximizing turbine reliability, energy yield, and lifecycle value.
TechnicalExpertise
- Strong knowledge in wind turbine technology & its design for large‑scale utility‑connected wind farms.
- Expertise in turbine types, rotor aerodynamics, structural mechanics & subsystems.
- Deep knowledge in wind resource assessment & correlation to select turbine class & micro‑siting with respect to site conditions.
- Expertise in power‑curve verification of various types of machines ranging 5MW & above of various reputed OEMs.
- Knowledge in grid compliance requirements, generator & power converter designs, turbine transformer design, electrical protection & controls.
- Deep knowledge in global standards requirements covering IEC, local regulations & certifications from DNV‑GL, TUV, UL.
- Knowledge in HSE standards like OSHA, ISO, fire safety etc.
- Expertise in analysis of vibration, noise, thermal management, SCADA alarm interpretation.
- Deep knowledge in reliability engineering covering MTBF, MTTR calculations, FMEA, RCA analysis.
- Knowledge in performance analysis, availability & loss estimations.
- Expertise in installation of wind turbine components like blades, nacelle, tower and other subsystems.
- Conduct detailed technical due diligence of turbine models for site‑specific suitability (wind class, turbulence intensity, hub height, grid compliance).
- Review turbine design documents, load calculations, and certification reports (IEC, GL standards).
- Support turbine layout optimization in coordination with resource assessment team.
- Ensure compliance of turbines with grid code, safety standards, and contractual obligations.
- Support bid evaluation of OEM proposals, including LCOE impact of turbine selection.
- Review turbine supply agreements, TSA, service agreements, O & M contracts, warranties and long‑term service agreements (LTSA).
- Benchmark turbine performance guarantees (availability, power curve, efficiency) across OEMs.
- Validate structural design safety (braking system, fail‑safe system, emergency stop mechanism, logistics & transport feasibilities).
- Technical review of subsystems: rotor blades, drivetrain, generator & power electronic converters, yaw & pitch systems, tower & foundation interface.
- Provide specialized guidance during turbine installation, commissioning and acceptance testing.
- Act as a first‑line technical authority for troubleshooting turbine faults, failures or recurrent reliability issues.
- Drive root‑cause analysis (RCA) of major component failures (gearbox, blades, generators, converters) and define corrective actions.
- Support predictive maintenance strategies using condition monitoring systems (CMS), SCADA alarm analysis, vibration monitoring, and oil analysis.
- Ensure turbines operate within designed parameters to maximize availability, generation yield and reliability.
Bachelor's/Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Renewable Energy; 12 years of experience in wind turbine and its subsystems; proven experience with grid compliance, turbine control and hybrid plant integration; strong knowledge in simulation tools related like WAsP, Windpro, Wind Farmer, CFD tools.
