Position: Intern- Fire and Life Safety Engineering

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a motivated Intern – Fire & Life Safety to support our specialist Fire & Life Safety team on a range of building and infrastructure projects. This internship offers hands‑on exposure to fire engineering, life‑safety design, and regulatory compliance within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment. The role is ideal for recent graduates eager to gain practical experience and build a foundation in Fire & Life Safety engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of Fire & Life Safety strategies, reports, and technical deliverables.
  • Perform research to inform performance‑based design engineering analysis.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of Fire Engineering Briefs and fire test methodologies.
  • Support life‑safety design reviews, including means of egress, fire zoning, and occupancy calculations.
  • Assist with code compliance checks against relevant standards (UAE Fire & Life Safety Code, IBC, NFPA, British Standards).
  • Support coordination with architecture, MEP, and structural teams to integrate fire safety requirements.
  • Assist in preparing authority submission documents and responding to review comments under supervision.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections, supporting senior engineers during construction stages.
  • Maintain project documentation and support internal quality processes.
Qualifications
  • Recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Basic understanding of fire protection systems, life‑safety principles, and building codes.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); exposure to AutoCAD or Revit is an advantage.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Eagerness to learn, with a collaborative and professional approach.
