Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimation Engineer – Electrical to lead cost estimation and tendering activities for MEP projects (Electrical side). The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical engineering background with proven expertise in estimating LV/MV power distribution, lighting, ELV, and other electrical building services systems for commercial, industrial, residential, or infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for electrical scope of MEP projects, including LV/MV power distribution, lighting & lighting control, cabling/cable trays, earthing & lightning protection, standby power (generators/UPS), and ELV systems (fire alarm, CCTV, access control, BMS, data/voice).
- Study tender documents, drawings, specifications, and BOQs (Bill of Quantities) to understand project scope and estimate requirements.
- Carry out quantity take-offs (QTO) from drawings/models (2D drawings and BIM/Revit models where applicable).
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers for materials and equipment (switch gear, transformers, cables, panels, luminaires, ELV systems, etc.).
- Prepare and compile competitive, technically sound, and commercially viable bid proposals within specified deadlines.
- Analyze technical specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements, codes, and standards (IEC, NEC, BS, NFPA 70/72, local authority regulations, etc.).
- Perform load calculations, cable sizing checks, and cost analysis to validate estimate accuracy.
- Conduct value engineering and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or code compliance.
- Coordinate with design, procurement, planning, and project execution teams to gather necessary inputs for estimation.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and vendors during the pre-bid and clarification stages.
- Prepare comparative cost statements, cash flow projections, and estimation summaries for management review.
- Maintain and update a database of historical costs, vendor rates, and market pricing trends.
- Support the tendering team in preparing technical and commercial proposals, including risk assessment and margin analysis.
- Participate in post-tender negotiations and clarification meetings as required.
- Ensure timely submission of estimates/tenders in line with client deadlines.
- Mentor and guide junior estimation engineers as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory); a Master's degree or PMP/estimation-related certification is a plus.
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in Electrical estimation, with a strong focus on electrical systems (power distribution, lighting, ELV)
- Prior experience with MEP contracting firms is a MUST
- Strong knowledge of LV/MV switch gear, transformers, distribution boards, cabling systems, lighting design, earthing/lightning protection, standby power (generators/UPS), and ELV systems (fire alarm, CCTV, access control, PA, BMS, structured cabling).
- Proficiency in estimation software
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit/BIM for quantity take-offs.
- Advanced MS Excel skills for cost sheets, comparisons, and analysis.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards (IEC, NEC, BS 7671, NFPA 70/72) and local municipal/authority/utility requirements.
- Understanding of contract types (lump sum, unit rate, cost-plus) and tendering processes.
