CSSD Technician

Position Summary

The CSSD Technician maintains adequate supply of all materials and equipment for use by hospital staff and provides supportive services to the Hospital through processing, cleaning, sterilizing of all necessary instrument sets, linen packs and all sterile stock for Operating Theatre Complex (OT), Nursing Units and other Departments.

• Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital Sharjah (UHS)
• Complies with all the UHS policies, procedures and fire regulations
• Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation Programme to assist UHS to attain and maintain international accreditation standards
• Work in all areas of the CSSD performing the designated duties within the assigned area
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and sterility through proper cleaning packaging and autoclaving of items.
• Perform delivery, cleaning, packing duties under the direction of supervisor.
• Perform decontamination of all types of instrumentation
• Receive dirty instruments and equipment, and prepares them for mechanical or manual cleaning.
• Checks and tests equipment & surgical instruments to assure that they function properly.
• Pack and label as per the policy guidelines instrument sets, anesthetic trays, equipment and utensils according to defined guidelines in preparation for sterilization.
• Load the items for sterilization into the sterilizer using the correct setting temperature and exposure time for the selected loads
• Perform routine monitoring tests on all equipment and autoclaves
• Maintain adequate supply of sterile and non-sterile items for use by hospital staff.
• Liaise with the clinical areas and observe safe practice when preparing, cleaning and returning of sets and equipment to departments.
• Perform weekly inventories of all procedure trays and items to assure sterility is maintained and that they are not outdated.
• Participate in maintain monthly CSSD statistics i.e. usage of packs and supplies by various departments
• Maintain an understanding of current trends in CSSD practice to improve work process and performance through training and evaluation
• Attend internal orientation, mandatory, ongoing education programs
• Works any shift as per the duty roster of the Nursing Department when designated
• The employment terms and conditions for this position are specified in the individuals Employment Contract
• Participates in nursing continuous quality improvement initiatives, in service education programmes, unit meetings and committee functions as assigned by nurse in charge
• Initiates emergency, safety practices and fire safety measures as necessary
• Reports all incidents through agreed channels and chain of command, ensuring Incident report is completed, submitted to nurse in charge and any immediate action required taken
• Maintains and adheres to patient confidentiality at all times
• Responsible for attendance to yearly mandatory training as scheduled on mandatory training calendar

• Certificate in CSSD with minimum 2 years’ experience as CSSD technician
• Proficient in verbal and written English

• Diploma in Sterilization Technology/CBSPD/IAHCSMM certification.
• BLS certificate

• MOH License

• BLS certificate

• 2 years CSSD technician experience
• Proficient in verbal and written English

• Previous UAE experience
• experience of working in International accredited hospital (JCIA)

• Demonstrate understanding of CSSD in an acute healthcare environment
