Responsibilities
- Operational & Technical Management – Oversee all steel fabrication works including cutting, welding, fitting, assembly, and finishing of heavy machinery components and structures. Manage fabrication of attachments, buckets, booms, frames, chassis components, platforms, guards, and structural steel works. Interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and specifications accurately. Coordinate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to support equipment modification, repair, and custom fabrication requirements.
Ensure fabrication activities align with project schedules, operational priorities, and equipment availability. - Workshop Resource Management – Plan manpower allocation, machine usage, and material requirements for fabrication jobs. Supervise fabrication supervisors, foremen, welders, fabricators, and helpers. Monitor productivity, efficiency, and output quality within the fabrication workshop. Control consumables, steel materials, welding rods, gases, and fabrication tools. Coordinate with procurement for timely availability of materials and spare parts.
- Quality Control Standards – Ensure all fabrication works comply with approved drawings, specifications, and industry standards. Implement welding procedures (WPS), inspection requirements, and quality checks. Conduct inspections for weld quality, dimensional accuracy, and finishing. Rectify non-conformances and implement corrective actions where required. Maintain fabrication records, inspection reports, and as-built documentation.
- Health & Safety Compliance – Enforce strict compliance with HSE policies, toolbox talks, and safe work procedures. Ensure safe use of welding equipment, cutting machines, cranes, and lifting tools. Conduct risk‑assessments and ensure proper PPE usage at all times. Investigate incidents, near misses, and implement preventive measures.
- Planning, Reporting & Cost Control – Prepare fabrication schedules, daily work plans, and progress reports. Monitor fabrication costs, material wastage, and labor efficiency. Support management with cost‑saving initiatives and process improvements. Provide regular reports on workshop performance, manpower, and output.
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 8–12 years of experience in steel fabrication within heavy machinery, construction equipment, or industrial workshops.
- Proven experience managing large fabrication teams and workshop operations.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding techniques (MIG, ARC, TIG), and heavy equipment components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication plans.
- Strong leadership and people‑management skills.
- Excellent planning, coordination, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Sound knowledge of fabrication machinery, welding standards, and quality control.
- Strong understanding of HSE requirements in industrial environments.
- Good communication skills to coordinate with engineers, supervisors, and management.
