Testing and Diagnostics
Perform thorough hardware and software diagnostic testing on incoming used and refurbished laptops. Identify faults, failures, and defects including screens, keyboards, batteries, ports, storage, and system boards. Use diagnostic tools and software to assess and document the condition of each device. Grade devices accurately according to condition and functionality.
Preparation and RefurbishmentClean, repair, and prepare laptops to a resaleable standard. Replace or upgrade components as required, including RAM, storage drives, batteries, and screens. Perform BIOS configuration, OS installation, and software setup as needed. Ensure devices are securely wiped and data-sanitised in line with best practice.
Quality ControlCarry out final quality control checks before devices are approved for sale or dispatch. Maintain consistent grading and quality standards across all processed stock. Flag and quarantine devices that do not meet required standards. Keep accurate records of device condition, work completed, and QC outcomes.
Workshop OperationsOrganise and maintain a clean, well-stocked, and efficient workshop environment. Manage spare parts inventory and flag replenishment needs. Support the breakdown and component extraction of end‑of‑life devices. Work efficiently to meet processing targets and turnaround times.
EssentialMinimum Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of hands‑on experience in laptop testing, refurbishment, preparation, or quality control.
- Strong practical knowledge of laptop hardware — components, common faults, and repair techniques.
- Experience with diagnostic tools, data wiping software, and OS installation.
- Ability to grade and assess devices accurately and consistently.
- Detail‑oriented with a commitment to quality in every device processed.
- Ability to work at pace and manage a steady volume of devices through the workshop.
- Prior experience in an IT refurbishing, ITAD, or electronics recycling environment.
- Familiarity with laptop brands commonly found in refurbishment — Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple, and similar.
- Knowledge of data sanitisation standards (e.g. NIST, Blancco, or equivalent).
- Basic understanding of wholesale grading standards (Grade A, B,
C) used in the resale market.
