Assistant Social Worker $4,024.00 - $5,136.00 approximate monthly / $23.21 - $29.63 approximate hourly. Social Worker $4,659.00 - $5,946.00 approximate monthly / $26.88- $34.30 approximate hourly. The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) partners with the community to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of Shasta County residents. HHSA is organized into four branches:
Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and a centralized Administration Services. HHSA promotes optimal health for all. The frail, the abused, the mentally ill, and those without resources look to HHSA for services and resources to meet their basic needs, and to protect their health and safety.

The Economic Mobility Branch provides assistance and services to individuals and families in the community. Through multiple locations in Redding, Anderson, Shasta Lake, Burney, and Enterprise, the branch provides initial and on-going eligibility determination services for public benefits such as Cal Fresh, CalWORKs, General Assistance and Healthcare Programs. The branch provides CalWORKs and Cal Fresh employment preparation and support services, breaking through barriers that may be hindering employment opportunities.

We also have teams dedicated to administering homeless and housing services within the community, providing much needed help to our most vulnerable community members. Finally, the Economic Mobility Branch also provides referrals for individuals and families to other services within HHSA and for services provided by our community partners.

Assistant Social Worker:
Under direction, to carry a caseload involving the determination of need for basic social service functions for applicants or clients; to perform elementary social studies to identify a need for more intensive casework services; to provide limited casework services of a general tangible nature; and to do related work as required.

Social Worker:
Under direction, to carry a service caseload and to provide social services; to conduct social studies and develop service plans which may include the need for specialized social services; to provide information about available services and to arrange for referral of clients to appropriate departmental or community human services resources; and to do other work as required.

For positions in the Behavioral Health Bridge Housing (BHBH) program:
The Behavioral Health Bridge Housing (BHBH) Program serves individuals experiencing homelessness who also present with significant behavioral health needs, including serious mental illness (SMI), substance use disorders (SUD), and co-occurring conditions.

For positions in the Housing Support Program (HSP) program:
The Housing Support Program (HSP) serves individuals experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness and are receiving Cash Aid.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
Assistant Social Worker is the trainee class in the professional Social Worker series. A position in this class is distinguished from that of the next higher class of Social Worker in that the incumbent is given constant and detailed supervision in learning such items as departmental organization, social service programs, basic case study methods, and casework services. As experience is gained, employees are assigned selected caseloads where consequence of error is minimal;
