Head Start Early Childhood Education Assistant & Substitute Teachers (Continuous Recruitment)

University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh is recruiting Early Childhood Education Assistants and Substitute Teachers for the Head Start program, a federally funded preschool initiative serving low‑income families. The role involves collaborating with full‑time teachers and teacher assistants to support children’s school readiness and ensuring a safe, sanitary environment for the 384 children and their families across seven centers in five counties.

Pay Range: $15.35/hr – $16.20/hr (Base pay for Assistants).
Substitute Teachers: $15.35/hr – $19.65/hr.

Job Duties
  • Maintains the safety and physical well‑being of children at all times and in all environments.
  • Engages in collaborative partnership building with children, staff, and parents to identify goals, strengths, necessary services, and other support.
  • Assists with early childhood education related tasks and classroom activities.
  • Implements individualized and developmental educational plans for children.
Hiring Incentive

New hires working 21 hours or more per week receive a $500.00 bonus after 90 days. New hires working 20 hours or less per week receive a $250.00 bonus after the same period.

Compensation Note

Early Childhood Education Assistant: $15.35 – $16.20 per hour.
Substitute Teachers: $15.35 – $19.65 per hour.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to take written and verbal instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working effectively with young children.
