Overview
Join the Y Club Youth Leader role at YMCA of Greater Kansas City. This position is part of the before and after school program and involves creating a fun, safe, and supportive environment for elementary-aged children. You will lead activities including crafts, sports, snack time, and more. Schedules are flexible and include weekday morning before school and/or afternoons after school until 6:00 p.m.
Responsibilities- Ensure the safety and well-being of youth in our program.
- Lead age-appropriate enrichment opportunities including games, arts and crafts, STEM projects, and physical activity.
- Model positive interactions and discipline; teach and redirect rather than scolding; enforce rules with dignity and respect to support self-esteem.
- Follow all policies and procedures to meet or exceed YMCA, school district and state guidelines.
- Positively identify individuals picking up children before releasing them.
- Identify emergency situations and respond quickly and appropriately.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and YMCA team members.
- Be prompt and dependable to work scheduled hours; provide proper notice for time off and coordinate with supervisor for coverage when needed.
- Clean and maintain areas used by the program as needed.
- All youth development staff are mandated reporters for suspected child abuse and must notify appropriate personnel of any concerns immediately.
- Youth Development Leaders provide direct supervision in leading groups of children.
- Youth Assistant Job Qualifications
- Minimum age of 16.
- Understanding of and ability to apply principles of quality youth development and programming.
- Sensitivity to clientele and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Active engagement with and supervision of children requiring physical stamina, alertness and emotional stability.
- Ability to work with others in a team environment.
- Youth Leader Job Qualifications
- Minimum age of 18.
- High school diploma or equivalent required at Kansas sites.
- One year or more of college preferred.
- Previous experience working with school-aged children (e.g., babysitting, nanny, or other childcare program).
- Commitment to provide quality youth development services at all levels.
- Demonstrated public relations and leadership skills with parents, school personnel, children, and coworkers.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Ability to work with others in a team environment.
- General understanding of computer technology.
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in various settings requiring physical stamina, alertness and emotional stability.
- Tuberculosis Test Risk Assessment and State Health Assessment form within 30 days (in MO).
