Seasonal Laborer - Parks & Recreation

Position Overview

The City of Shawnee is looking for Seasonal Laborers in the Parks & Recreation Department. Seasonal full-time hours April to October, no more than 1,000 hours. Non-supervisory role assisting maintenance of City park facilities.

• Assist with seasonal maintenance work: mowing grass, operating tractors, trimming and watering lawns, trees, shrubs; watering, fertilizing flower beds; picking up trash; cleaning restrooms in City parks.
• Transport: drive or ride truck to haul materials & transport equipment; load & unload materials from trucks & trailers; listen to radio assignments.
• Activity Preparation: prepare facilities for activities, setting up tables and chairs, recreational equipment, bleachers, and other equipment.
• General Equipment Maintenance: perform minor equipment maintenance & repairs; wash vehicles and equipment.
• Manual Labor: paint buildings and other objects.
• Field Data Collection: photograph amenities & infrastructure for park inventory; collect data & notes on condition of benches, drinking fountains, trash receptacles, signage.
• Snow/Ice Removal: shovels snow & ice from parking lots, streets, sidewalks; drive truck during snow removal & ice control operations.
• Other Duties: perform other related duties as requested or assigned.

Entry Level (begins at $16.00 per hour): high school diploma or equivalent. Previous work experience in construction, maintenance, &/or operation of trucks and light equipment preferred.

Senior Level (begins at $19.00 per hour): high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of five (5) years previous work experience in construction, maintenance, &/or operation of trucks and light equipment preferred.

Any combination of education & experience that provides the knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities listed may also be considered.

Regular shifts 7:00 a.m.

- 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasionally works evenings & weekends for special events.
