What to Expect:

This position has blended responsibilities for the operation of the Sheboygan County Senior Dining Program and for the Health Promotions Program. This includes proper food handling and sanitation, coordination of health and wellness program activities and volunteers, and maintenance of the facility during program hours. In addition to the operation of the senior dining site, the Human Services Specialist must conduct outreach throughout Sheboygan County, informing seniors of the dining site and health promotion programs and services available through the Aging and Disability Resource Center.

The position is held at the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC).

  • Provide educational opportunities for seniors at the dining site
    • Schedule learning opportunities regarding nutrition/food safety, disaster preparedness, general health and/or medication, and financial/Medicare information, related to the needs of seniors
    • Arrange and provide entertainment activities for seniors, including but not limited to: bingo, card games, trivia and word challenges, etc.
  • Conduct outreach to recruit for Health Promotions Programs
    • Meet with seniors, informing them of health and wellness programs and services available through the Aging and Disability Resource Center
    • Coordinate and lead Health Promotions Programs at the ADRC and throughout County with community partners
Management of Senior Dining Site
  • Prepare site for meals, sanitize tables, and set tables as indicated
  • Receive food from vendor and review for temperature, quality, and completeness of the meal
  • Recruit, schedule, and train volunteers as needed to assist with site duties
  • Record and maintain data in PEERPLACE for the dining program as required
  • Draft and publish the monthly ADRC Newsletter
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners in Sheboygan County’s aging network
  • Participate in planning and staffing public outreach events, including, but not limited to:
    Volunteer Banquet, Senior Programming, Walk With Ease, Falls Prevention, Evidence‑Based Health Promotions classes
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Human Services, Education, or Nursing. A combination of experience and training, along with supplemental education in Social Sciences or Human Services, may be considered.
  • Applicants must maintain confidentiality of client information as required by State and Federal laws, regulations and professional practice standards.
  • Applicant must comply with applicable federal and state laws, administrative rules, established agency procedures, and accepted professional standards, including, but not limited to Chapter 8 of the Wisconsin Aging Network Manual, the Wisconsin Food Service Code, Health Promotions Program with Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources (GWAAR), Department of Health Services, and Wisconsin Institute for Health Aging (WIHA).
