Position Summary

Be the difference and put your passion into action — join Math Corps! Across the country, math skills are a challenge for many students. Fewer than one-third of our students are proficient in math. Together, we can help change this!

As a Math Tutor, your crucial role will impact the lives of many children and offer vital assistance to those who need extra help in understanding math concepts. You will immerse yourself in a local school to support students in fourth through eighth grades. You'll help them succeed by providing extra practice and skill-building in groups of two to three students.

With training and on-site coaching, you'll be prepared to empower students in their math journey. Your commitment during school hours throughout the academic year guarantees a significant impact.

How You’ll Take Action

  • Be a caring adult who’s focused on helping students build their skills and confidence.
  • Track student progress and regularly meet with the school’s on-site coach.
  • Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data software.
  • Commit to your own growth as a tutor through coaching, training, and professional development.
  • Represent Math Corps at school events and share your experience with the community to raise awareness.

It Starts with a Passion

Math Corps takes everyday people and trains them to be great tutors. Anyone can become a tutor as long as they have a passion to make a difference — and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they begin their service, our tutors are:

  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
  • Able to understand and follow instructions.
  • Open to making improvements based on feedback.
  • Capable of setting a pace and maintain a schedule with students.
  • Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online).
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing .
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check.

* Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve in our programs at this time. DACA applicants may be eligible for Americorps VISTA programs. For more information, .

Compensation & Perks Package

Federal Benefits include:

  • Up to $5176.50 in Education Award
    • Segal Ameri Corps Education Award

Program Specific Benefits by hours commitment per week

35 Hours

  • $900 stipend paid every two weeks.
  • Individual health insurance — monthly premium 100% covered.
  • Child care assistance — based on family size and income.

25 Hours

  • $650 stipend paid every two weeks.
