Major Responsibilities
  • Works as a Cat Scan staff technologist
  • Coordinates technologists and supporting personnel with regard to schedules, work assignments, and quality improvement standards
  • Along with CT team, coordinates patient flow through the department to ensure maximum work output with the least amount of patient waiting time
  • With the assistance, and under the direction of the Manager of Imaging Services, develops and maintains a QA/Quality Assurance Plan
  • Assures high quality Computerized Tomography Scans are submitted by technologists to ensure optimal diagnostic information is available to radiologists for accurate and complete patient diagnosis
  • Maintains inventory of department supplies
  • 1) Ties into the responsibilities around schedule creation and staffing: calendars and approvals for weekends, holidays, vacations, and changes due to sick calls or PTO
  • 2) Adjusts staffing assignments during unscheduled staff shortages; determines need for float pool personnel utilization and overtime approval; maintains contact with Radiology Manager regarding staffing conditions
  • 1) Counsels and disciplines associates within Cat Scan under the direct supervision of the Manager of Imaging Services
  • 2) Coordinates and oversees training of new employees according to department orientation policies; evaluates and verifies employee competency
  • 3) Attends monthly Department Lead Meetings and provides input regarding department operations
  • Performs venipuncture for exams using sterile technique, universal precautions, and aseptic procedures; assists physician during contrast media reaction treatment; updates allergy history in the HIS/RIS system
  • Ensures proper charging of contrast media and supplies daily
  • Prepares and submits incident reports to maintain safety and quality patient care standards; participates in staff training and education
  • Acts as initial contact person for patient, visitors, physicians and staff with concerns or complaints; forwards comments to Manager for follow up and documents corrective actions
  • Facilitates and coordinates CT associates communication between ER and Main CT scanners to maximize patient flow during high volume times
  • Provides liaison among technical and ancillary staff, radiologists, house physicians and office staff, nursing units, and hospital administration
    • With the Manager of Imaging Services, develops and maintains a QA/Quality Assurance Plan
    • Collects and analyzes data; maintains radiation and fire safety standards; participates in mandatory trainings
    • Recommends actions for improvement in CT department operations; attends CQI training as appropriate
    • Evaluates CT scans and makes recommendations for technique changes, positioning, contrast amounts, and patient dose
    • Maintains inventory of department supplies; performs par stocking; places orders with approval; tracks orders and liaises with vendors
    • Participates in annual inventory control and ensures appropriate budget accounts are consulted before order placement

    Education/Experience Required

    • Maintains active IDNS License; minimum 3–5 years full-time experience as a Radiologic Technologist; supervisory experience preferred; fully skilled in all areas of general Computerized Tomography

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

    • Understanding of positioning and technique factors in CT; able to perform common CT procedures; good oral and written communication skills
    • ARRT Registry (CT), (R); IEMA License; CPR

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

    • Able to respond to requests to work on short notice; flexible starting times; must be able to transport, move, and lift patients; may require rotating shifts
    • Exposed to infectious diseases; may work overtime; musculoskeletal hazards from lifting and repetitive motions
    • For direct patient care: ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; use patient handling equipment for heavier lifts with another staff member when possible
