Diesel Technician

Department: Service

Reports To: Service Manager

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, no nights or weekends.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Engine Technician to join our heavy‑duty commercial truck dealership service team. This role focuses on diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of diesel engines and related systems on International Motors and IC Bus vehicles. The ideal candidate has strong diagnostic skills, OEM engine experience, and a commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and overhaul diesel engines including fuel systems, air intake, cooling, exhaust, and after‑treatment systems
  • Perform advanced diagnostics using OEM software and diagnostic tools
  • Troubleshoot check engine lights, driveability concerns, emissions faults, and performance issues
  • Complete in‑frame and out‑of‑frame engine repairs as required
  • Accurately document repairs on repair orders, including parts usage and labor time
  • Perform warranty repairs in accordance with OEM guidelines
  • Follow all DOT, EPA, and dealership safety standards
  • Communicate effectively with service advisors, supervisors, and parts personnel
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Stay current with OEM training, service bulletins, and technical updates
General Knowledge and Skills You Will Need
  • 5+ years of experience as a diesel engine technician in a dealership or fleet environment
  • Strong experience with Class 6–8 heavy‑duty trucks
  • Proficiency in diesel engine diagnostics and repair
  • Experience with OEM engine platforms such as:
  • Ability to perform major engine repairs and overhauls
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins
  • Valid driver’s license
Desired Education and Experience
  • OEM engine certifications (Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, etc.)
  • ASE Crtifications (T2–T8 preferred)
  • Experience with aftertreatment systems (DPF, SCR, EGR)
  • Experience using dealer management systems (CDK, Dealer track, Decisiv, Procede, etc.)
  • CDL (or willingness to obtain)
