The Transit Coordinator position performs essential duties in support of Shoreline Metro and Metro Connection customers and staff. Transit Coordinators provide driver and staff support, provide excellent customer service, perform dispatching duties, assist customers with transit service and support drivers and staff. In this role, Transit Coordinator also coordinate and manage all external customer fare media outlets and information kiosks and coordinates the Bus Buddy and travel training programs for Shoreline Metro.

Transit Coordinators fill-in wherever needed and provide essential staff support. This position is cross-trained to provide support in all areas of transit operations. This position performs essential daily tasks and is an important part of the Shoreline Metro team.

This position is generally scheduled weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (70%), rotating Saturdays (10%) and weekday early mornings or early evenings (20%).

Responsibilities
  • Perform dispatching duties in support of or in relief of the Operations Supervisor or other staff for fixed route and paratransit operations during scheduled or non‑scheduled absences.
  • Assist customers at the Customer Service Office during normal business hours.
  • Acts as and supports the ADA & Paratransit Coordinator with day‑to‑day activities and may be the backup point‑of‑contact in the absence of the ADA & Paratransit Coordinator.
  • Coordinate, manage and support all external fare media sales outlets, transit information kiosks, vending machines and customer inquiries and communications.
  • Provide administrative assistance as needed with farebox and parking revenue, fare media, customer concerns, mail, etc.
  • Provide assistance and support to drivers and address needs as necessary.
  • Assist and support Operations Supervisors with day‑to‑day activities including scheduling of drivers and routes, driver picks, replacement of drivers and shifts, vehicle assignment and other duties.
  • Provide exceptional customer service through email and phone contact and in‑person at the office.
  • Coordinate and support Shoreline Metro’s Bus Buddy and travel training programs and act as point of contact for these programs.
  • Perform data entry as needed.
  • Promote and maintain safety standards and procedures for all operations.
  • Assist with mail delivery to and from City Hall and daily deposit to the bank.
  • Assist the Safety and Training Coordinator with training new drivers on vehicles, road driving, pre‑trip inspections, operations, etc.
  • Act as a professional representative of Shoreline Metro and the City of Sheboygan.
  • Work in a team environment and be able to work with little or no supervision at times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Report to work each workday on or before designated check‑in time.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
  • Valid WI Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with passenger “P” endorsement. Air brake restriction must also be removed. Valid CDL must be obtained in a timely fashion during training (training provided by Shoreline Metro).
  • 1‑3 years minimum experience in an office setting or transit setting with driving experience of commercial vehicles and/or dispatching or logistics coordination preferred.
  • Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office and possess excellent math, writing and communication skills.
  • Remain current on all trainings, certifications and requirements of the position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and complete reports and records.
  • Provide effective and courteous customer service.
  • Understanding of basic mathematical principles.
  • Handle and count money; responsible for accurate collection and reconciliation of cash on a daily basis.
  • Act, make decisions, and justify action based on rational thought, good judgment, and logical reasoning.
  • Demonstrate flexibility: able to work evenings, mornings, weekdays and Saturdays as needed.
  • Read, understand, retain and recite information in training manuals, notices and standard operating procedures.
  • Make decisions in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Submit to FTA required drug and alcohol testing requirements (preemployment, post-accident, random and reasonable suspicion testing) as a condition of employment.
  • Work in a fast‑paced environment with times of high stress and anxiety.
