QualificationsCandidate must have strong faith, be an active member of a biblical based church, people skills, and organizational abilities, requiring a deep passion for kids' spiritual growth, understanding of child development, excellent communication, leadership to inspire volunteers, and a commitment to safety and teamwork, often supported by theological education or relevant experience.
PurposeThe purpose of the Children’s Ministry Director, under the direction of the pastor, is to evangelize the children of Sheffield and surrounding towns, disciple the children of York Bluff Baptist Church (YBBC), to lead the children to participate in the work and ministries of YBBC, to implement planning, and to provide administration of the children’s education ministry of YBBC.
Spiritual & Character Qualities- Faith Commitment: A mature, devoted follower of Christ, living by biblical principles, and supporting York Bluff Baptist Church’s mission. The director must affirm the Baptist faith and Message 2000 and become a member of YBBC, once called.
- Servant Leadership: Humble, teachable, and trustworthy, leading by example in conduct, faith, and love. The Children’s Ministry Director is expected to be an active participant in the life of the church beyond those responsibilities related to the children’s ministry of YBBC.
- Passion for Kids: Genuine love for children and a desire to nurture their faith.
- Leadership & Teamwork: Ability to motivate, organize, and collaborate with volunteers and staff.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills to connect with kids, parents, and staff.

- Experience: Prior work with children in church, school, or related settings.

- Education: Strong biblical background and extensive experience with children grades K through
6. Qualified in basic first aid.
- Creativity: Innovative approach to engaging children.
- Compassion: A caring demeanor for children and families.
- Adaptability: Flexibility in a dynamic environment.
- Providing nursery staffing each Sunday morning, Wednesday during evening activities (5-7 PM) and adult choir rehearsals (7-8 PM).
- Coordinate the enlistment, training and motivation of adults to serve in the children’s ministry in cooperation with the Nominating Committee and the pastor.
- Manage and schedule the volunteers assisting the children’s ministry.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Coordinate and implement an annual children’s ministry budget proposal and administer that budget as approved by the Stewardship Committee.
- Coordinate weekly activities.
- Coordinate an overall curriculum plan which includes a comprehensive Christian education.
- Create shared children/parent events emphasizing Christian beliefs.
- Ensure the nursery is stocked with drinks and snacks.
- Sanitize and keep the nursery organized and safe.
- Choose age-appropriate literature for Pre‑K through 6th grade children.
- Purchase drinks and snacks (as budgeted) for Pre‑K through 6th grade children.
- Provide activities infused with biblical stories that are understandable by the audience age.
