SY Ecofit is a Community Interest Company delivering retrofit projects that:

  • Improve the energy efficiency of homes and speed up our transition to net zero
  • Foster community wealth building
  • Develop local skills and a local workforce

We work with social housing providers, homeowners and private landlords to deliver energy efficiency retrofit, reduce fuel bills and decarbonise homes. We are committed to developing a service that is responsive to the needs of South Yorkshire’s communities and to valuing sustainability over profit.

We are committed to ensuring diversity and gender equality within our organisation and encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.

As SY Ecofit continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced, highly organised and proactive Finance & Accounts Officer to take responsibility for the accurate and efficient day-to-day management of our financial records, payroll and related staff administration.

The role will combine practical bookkeeping and accounts management with payroll, holiday administration and financial reporting. We are looking for someone who is confident using Xero, with a sound understanding of accounting processes. Knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is desirable, although training can be provided.

A key part of the role will be ensuring that routine financial and payroll processes are completed accurately and on time, records are kept up to date, and reliable financial information is available when needed.

Responsibilities include:

Accounts and Bookkeeping
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounts in Xero, including invoices, payments, receipts and reconciliations
  • Managing supplier and customer accounts, including debtor and creditor follow-up
  • Supporting VAT and year-end accounts preparation
  • CIS and Construction Finance
  • Managing CIS processes, including subcontractor verification, deductions and returns
  • Maintaining accurate subcontractor records and ensuring construction-related transactions are correctly recorded and allocated
Payroll and Staff Administration
  • Managing monthly payroll accurately and on time, including starters, leavers, salary changes and other adjustments
  • Maintaining payroll, pension, holiday, sickness and absence records
  • Liaising with pension providers and supporting staff with routine payroll and leave queries
Management Accounts and Financial Reporting
  • Preparing regular management accounts and financial reports for the Directors and Board
  • Monitoring cashflow, income, expenditure, debtors, creditors and performance against budget
  • Supporting organisational, project and grant budgeting and financial reporting
  • Identifying emerging financial issues and presenting financial information clearly to support decision-making
Experience and qualifications
  • Relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience is essential. A recognised qualification such as AAT would be advantageous, although strong practical experience will be equally important.
  • Experience of using Xero and managing CIS processes is highly desirable, alongside experience of payroll, reconciliations, VAT and financial reporting.
Skills Development
  • The development of skills is very important to us. There will be opportunities to broaden your knowledge and responsibilities within the role, and we will offer the successful candidate appropriate training and support tailored to their existing skills and experience.
Key Qualities
  • You’ll have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, manage competing demands and ensure routine financial processes are completed accurately and on time.
  • You’ll be methodical, reliable and confident taking responsibility for your own workload, with strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • You’ll have good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain financial information clearly and work collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers, subcontractors and external advisers.
  • You’ll be comfortable working independently, taking ownership of your responsibilities and contributing positively as part of a small and growing team.

The closing date for applications is 30th September 2026
