Job Description & How to Apply Below

MOPO is on a mission to enable renewable energy access in underserved markets. With operations in Nigeria, DRC, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, the company deploys solar power stations that distribute energy through proprietary MOPO batteries managed by a network of local agents. MOPO is scaling rapidly and positioned to transform energy access and e‑mobility across the continent.

The Role

As New Business Lead, you will own the growth of a new business line from a blank page to a scalable, revenue‑generating operation. You will act as a founder‑style leader, discovering opportunities, building the model, establishing operations, and driving the initiative across the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Discover and validate opportunities by learning deeply with customers and on‑ground agents.
  • Define the commercial strategy and unit economics, owning the viability of the business.
  • Build and lead local operations and teams, growing the business as it scales.
  • Collaborate with finance, technology, and manufacturing partners to turn ideas into reality.
  • Report to the C‑suite, influence long‑term strategy, and determine when to scale, pivot, or stop.
What Success Looks Like
  • A validated business case with clear, evidence‑based understanding of the customer, problem, market size, and MOPO’s competitive advantage.
  • A live pilot in at least one market, generating hard data on unit economics and demand.
  • A funded and credible path to scale, or a transparent recommendation to pivot or cease the venture.
  • Measurable impact on MOPO’s mission of expanding renewable energy access.
Qualifications
  • Analytical, structured, and rigorous problem‑solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to advance momentum amid limited infrastructure and incomplete data.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and spend extended periods in African markets, with openness to relocation if required.
  • Legitimate interest in frontier markets, energy access, e‑mobility, or social‑impact ventures.
Bonus but not Essential
  • French language skills (valuable in DRC and other markets).
  • Experience taking a venture, product, or business line from zero to one.
  • Background in emerging or frontier markets, energy, mobility, distribution, or asset finance.
