Gender Euphoric Trans Musical Call : Emerging Writer

We’re looking for an Emerging Writer to join us for the development of a brand new mid-scale musical, in a creative team led by leading trans director and Core Artist Jamie Fletcher.

The project is led by leading trans director, Jamie Fletcher, whose recent credits include the Fringe First Award-Winning – Happy Meal and the critically acclaimed Leeds Playhouse and HOME co-production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

The Emerging Writer will join a team of 4 other leading trans writers and creatives including Krishna Istha and Tabby Lamb for two weeks of R&D at Sheffield Theatres. The aim of the R&D is to develop a first draft of material and structure for the new musical through a writers room style process.

ABOUT THE MUSICAL:
This new musical will be a gender euphoric, multi-narrative and multi-disciplinary in form. We want to celebrate trans people and capture trans joy. We want to move away from telling stories that focus on the challenges and barriers trans people face and/or overcome.

It will feature a diverse range of real and fictional stories, telling historical and modern day experiences of trans people from across the UK. The finished show will incorporate a company of 6 trans performers plus a band of musicians.

FEE: £1,500 NET plus expenses (travel, accommodation and per diems) paid in line with ITC rates of pay.

DATES: w/c 13th and w/c 27th March 2023 at Sheffield Theatres, with 1-2 days set aside either side of these weeks for prep and evaluation.
