Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual on a whole-time basis as LAS Specialty Registrar in Paediatric Dentistry. The tenure of the post will be fixed term from September 2026 until 30 June 2027.
The successful candidate will be based at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and at Wheata Place Clinic. The post does not award a National Training Number.
As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GDC with a licence to practise is required.
Main duties of the jobThe Department provides the full range of Paediatric Dentistry care as a major secondary and tertiary referral centre. This includes treatment of special needs children, anxious patients, and complex dental care for children and adolescents. Joint Clinics are held with Restorative Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery and as part of the Cleft Lip and Palate Team. Facilities exist for the provision of treatment under sedation and at the Children’s hospital comprehensive dental care under GA and exodontia.
There are close links with all Paediatric Medical and Surgical specialties based at Sheffield Children’s Hospitals.

The appointee will participate in the administration of the department as required. For example, this may involve attention to operating lists, organisation of teaching or day to day administration as required by the consultants and the service.
Person specification Qualifications- Registered with the GDC with a licence to practise
- Basic Medical Degree – BDS
- Completed DFT
- Completed Dental Core Training Year 2:
Evidence by time of post commencement of satisfactory RCP outcome or programme completion/certification of UK DCT2/3 post or National Certificate of Dental Core Equivalence (NCDCE) at time of application - Evidence that is on an NHS primary care organisation Performance List or able to meet requirements to do so

- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013).
- Experience of delivering a dental service for children
- Experience of delivering inhalation sedation with relevant training
- At least 12 months of NHS Experience (not clinical attachment)
- General practice and secondary care experience
- Experience of Community Dental Services
- Experience in more than one dental specialty
- Experience of diagnosis and treatment planning
- Competent to work with minimal supervision
- Clear, logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach
- Good manual dexterity and hand/eye co-ordination
- Basic life support skills
- Understanding of clinical risk management
