Consultant in Paediatric Critical Care and Transport

Permanent | 10 PAs (5 for Paediatric Critical Care and 5 for Embrace Transport)

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Critical Care and Embrace Transport to join our dynamic team. This unique position is split between Sheffield Children’s Hospital Critical Care Unit and the Embrace transport service. You will help manage critical care transfers, offer expert clinical advice, and lead a high-performance transport team.

About You

MBBS (or equivalent), MRCPCH (or equivalent higher qualification), and GMC registration.

On the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of obtaining CCT in Paediatrics.

Experience leading clinical teams and providing high-quality care in paediatric high dependency settings.

Expertise in complex clinical decision-making, including remote clinical advice and patient transport.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead clinical and managerial aspects of the Embrace transport service when on duty.
  • Facilitate urgent conference calls for patients requiring high-priority transfer.
  • Triage transport requests and determine appropriate team composition.
  • Ensure the management and transfer of critically ill patients, including providing consultant-level care when needed.
  • Support development of new team members, including supervised transports.
  • Contribute to audits, incident reporting, and service management.
  • Mentor medical and nursing staff within both Embrace and PCCU settings.
  • Participate in critical care activities at Sheffield Children’s Hospital HDU and PCCU.
