Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint LAS Specialty Registrar (CT4 / ST4+ equivalent) in Anaesthesia, with start as soon as possible. The tenure of all posts is 6 to 12 months (possible extension if required). The posts do not attract a National Training Number.
The posts are based within the existing teams with access to departmental teaching and other developmental opportunities. Despite not being recognised as 'training posts' they allow doctors to improve the breadth and depth of their experience in Anaesthetics. We are very supportive of those considering the CESR route and have had several fellows be successful in this process.
Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.
Main duties of the jobThe STH anaesthetic department provides anaesthesia services for both the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Northern General Hospital.
Being a tertiary and qua ternary referral centre, the clinical caseload is stimulating, and resident doctors experience a variety of interesting and challenging cases, having opportunities to learn advanced skills and techniques.
We provide anaesthesia for Cardiothoracic surgery, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics, Complex Urology and Gynaecology, ENT and Max-Fax, Breast surgery, Plastic and reconstructive, and Burns surgery, complex Colorectal, Upper GI, and HPB surgery, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Spinal Injuries, Renal including transplant services, Vascular and interventional radiology.
We are also a Major Trauma Centre and as such, our residents experience being part of an active Major Trauma response team.
Additionally, we provide anaesthesia at non-theatre locations, including for Fluoroscopy procedures, Endoscopy, MRI, and ECT, and offer experience in deep sedation.

Job responsibilitiesThe successful applicant will have regular training lists cross a wide range of our specialties, the areas of interest of the post holder being mutually agreed re is the opportunity to build experience and confidence with locally supervised lists where appropriate.
The post holder will take part in a 1 in 8 on-call rota, which is reliably published at a minimum of 6 weeks in advance, and uses a self-rostering system. We consider requests for the out of hours work to be in specific clinical sectors to align with the interest and experience of the individual and would facilitate this where possible.
We support residents and fellows in following the portfolio pathway, and would support the postholder in this, if desired. This would include access to formal and informal teaching opportunities, and access to involvement in Quality Improvement and/or research projects. Study leave is not included as standard but may be negotiated on an individual basis.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our teaching and supervision to our residents and offer the same to a locum doctor accordingly.
Person Specification Qualifications- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise. (Includes demonstration of English language competence to GMC defined IELTS/ OET standard).
