Overview
We are looking to appoint Senior Clinical Fellows in Neurosurgery to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. This is a fixed‑term post starting as soon as possible and ending on 06 October 2026 in the first instance. It may be subject to review.
The Adult Neurosurgical Service runs three operating theatres and the Paediatric Neurosurgical Service runs one further operating theatre. The theatre suites are well supported with operating microscopes, ultrasonic aspirators, Brainlab neuronavigation and, for paediatric cases, intra‑operative MRI. Neuroradiology (including interventional coiling/embolisation) is provided by seven consultant neuroradiologists and the Neurosurgical Service has access to three spiral multi‑slice CT scanners, four MRI scanners and a 3D angiography suite.
Neuro‑anaesthesia is provided by ten consultant neuro‑anaesthetists who also cover neuro‑critical care/HDU. The service is supported by neurology, neurophysiology, neuropathology, endocrinology, head & neck and ophthalmology departments, all located at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
As a Senior Clinical Fellow you will:
- Attend clinics, theatres and ward rounds alongside equal‑level trainee doctors (ST3+).
- Work predominantly at Royal Hallamshire Hospital but also at Sheffield Children’s Hospital for paediatric care.
- Support the Neurosurgical team with a flexible out‑of‑hours shift pattern in line with service requirements.
- Participate in the National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery, including use of two gamma knives.
- Assist in training and development of junior medical staff.
The post is equivalent to an ST3+ trainee in Neurosurgery. It does not attract a National Training Number, but reasonable support will be available for appointees to pursue relevant training needs identified.
BenefitsThe Trust offers: flexible working, good annual leave, pension schemes, health and wellbeing packages, financial support systems, salary sacrifice schemes and a range of discount opportunities with retailers and service providers.
