SEND Teacher (Specialist School)
Location:
Specialist School, Sheffield
Contract:
Full-time / Permanent (or Fixed Term, if applicable)
Salary: MPS / UPS + SEN Allowance (dependent on experience)
Role Purpose
The SEND Teacher will plan, deliver, and assess high-quality teaching and learning for pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities. The role requires experience of working in specialist school settings, with a strong commitment to inclusive practice, personalised learning, and positive outcomes for all pupils.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with complex SEND
Create a structured, supportive, and nurturing learning environment
Adapt teaching strategies to meet a range of learning styles and needs
Use assessment to monitor progress and inform next steps
Promote independence, communication, and life skills alongside academic learning
SEND & EHCP Support
Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of EHCPs
Set, monitor, and review personalised learning targets
Write clear and accurate reports for annual reviews and multi-agency meetings
Work closely with families, carers, and external professionals
Behaviour & Wellbeing
Implement positive behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies
Support pupils’ social, emotional, and mental health needs
Maintain high expectations while promoting pupils’ dignity and wellbeing
Teamwork & Leadership
Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and support staff
Provide guidance and support to TAs to ensure effective classroom practice
Contribute to whole-school development and specialist provision
Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice
Person Specification
Essential
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching pupils with SE
Strong understanding of a range of SEND (e.g. Autism, ADHD, SEMH, MLD, SLD, PMLD)
Knowledge of EHCP processes and personalised learning
Excellent classroom management and communication skills
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
Desirable
Additional SEND qualifications or specialist training
Experience working with alternative or adapted curricula
Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Team Teach or positive behaviour support training desireable
