ASD Primary Teacher
London Teaching Pool are currently recruiting for a specialist complex needs Teacher to work with primary aged children - KS2 in this SEN school in Dartford. This role will be to start ASAP as this SEN school need an ASD Teacher urgently to teach from year 1 - year 5.
This Primary ASD Teaching position will start asap until the end of the summer term. The role will be to teach the UK Primary National Curriculum to Complex needs children who cannot be educated in a mainstream. You would be Teaching 2 days in Crayford and 2 days in Sidcup, the other day to be confirmed but you will be given planning time.
You will have to be flexible as one class is behavioural and the other has both behaviour and some medical needs.
All of the primary students at this SEN school arrive with a statement of SEN known as an Education Care Plan. Because the students have often missed education as a result of their behaviour or because of specific learning difficulties, they frequently arrive at this SEN school with comparatively low levels of prior attainment.
To be a successful ASD teacher at this SEN school you must have excellent behaviour/class management skills, knowledge of how to teach children/young people with complex needs or have relevant experience as an SEN Teacher working with ASD or complex needs pupils.
Excellent behaviour management skills are essential and Team Teach training would be desirable.
Responsibilities- Teach from Year 1 to Year 5 within a primary ASD/complex needs setting, following the UK Primary National Curriculum for students with complex needs.
- Deliver lessons across two locations (Crayford and Sidcup) with planning time provided; per timetable as stated.
- Manage classrooms effectively with a focus on positive behaviour support for pupils with behavioural and medical needs.
- Collaborate with school staff to support pupils with Education Care Plans and varied attainment levels.
- At least 1 year of classroom experience (ideally) with a Team-Teach qualification.
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS.
- Excellent behaviour management skills and ability to build positive relationships with young people and staff.
- Team Teach or similar restraint training certificate.
- Good knowledge/experience working with children with complex needs within an SEN environment.
- Ability to teach KS2 curriculum and work well as part of a team.
- Strong personality and a valid DBS (preferably on update service).
- The right to work in the UK and a minimum of two references.
