Overview

Sheffield United FC Academy invites applications for a Lead Goalkeeping Coach (U16s-U21s) to develop goalkeepers across the professional development phase. The role requires planning, delivering, and reviewing age-appropriate coaching sessions, monitoring goalkeeper progression through Individual Learning Plans, and working with coaches and multi-disciplinary staff. The successful candidate will contribute to identification and recruitment of future talent and support the long-term development of the goalkeeping pathway.

Hours: 40 Hours Per Week

Location: Sheffield United Training Academy and various opposition clubs

Role Responsibilities
  • Development of goalkeepers from U16s-U21s, including monitoring and providing support to the club's Head of Goalkeeping.
  • Monitor goalkeeper performance across the Academy; ensure every goalkeeper has an Individual Learning Plan that is delivered, reviewed, and adapted with opportunities to practice highlighted areas.
  • Liaise with Lead Phase Coaches and Academy Coaches regarding training, games, and progress.
  • Develop and monitor age-appropriate coaching curricula and development programmes with the Goalkeeping Department, ensuring integration with outfield players.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions in line with the Academy's GK coaching curriculum.
  • Collaborate with other departments to maintain a multi-disciplinary environment and ensure comprehensive development for goalkeepers.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including organisation, recording of sessions, player reviews, learning objectives, and weekly reflections through the PMA and other systems.
  • Contribute to scouting and recruitment where appropriate.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings as directed by the Head of Goalkeeping/Head of Academy/Head of Coaching.
  • Attend at least five hours of FA in-service training per year and maintain license requirements.
  • Support the Coaching Competency Framework (CCF) and undertake CPD through the club and external bodies.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Goalkeeping/Head of Academy/Head of Coaching.
  • Adhere to all Sheffield United FC safeguarding policies and procedures and promote an inclusive environment for all.
Essential Criteria
  • Minimum UEFA B Goalkeeping Coaching Award
  • FA First Aid (Level 2 Emergency First Aid in Football)
  • Completion of an Enhanced DBS Check upon offer acceptance
  • Experience of coaching young players
  • Experience in Youth Development
  • Experience of working within an Academy
  • Organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills with parents/guardians, players, and coaches across all phases
Desirable Criteria
  • UEFA A GK Award
  • Advanced Youth Award (GK Specific)
  • Experience at Academy level or higher
  • Experience with 1st Team or Senior Goalkeepers
