Overview

We are seeking to recruit a University Teacher to join the School of Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery. This is an exciting opportunity to work with colleagues to deliver the pre‑registration BSc Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Degree Apprenticeship programme as well as our other campus‑based SLT programmes. The BSc SLT Apprenticeship is delivered online and runs alongside our campus based BMedSci Speech and Language Therapy and MMedSci Speech and Language Therapy (full and part time) programmes.

The apprenticeship route to professional qualification allows learners to combine work and study. University teaching and learning is delivered by live, synchronous online learning.

We seek candidates with the vision and drive to help us achieve our ambition of delivering an outstanding student experience and to equip our graduates to advance understanding in Speech and Language Therapy and be at the forefront of our profession.

We are ideally looking for candidates with expertise in speech and language therapy in the areas of paediatrics/children/young people. Other areas of expertise can also be considered, e.g., adults with communication or eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties. Alongside teaching, regular online tripartite meetings with apprentices and clinical mentors form a core part of this role. Other duties will include student engagement, student recruitment and student support.

Whatever your experience, we are looking for new ideas and approaches to help shape our BSc Speech and Language Therapy Degree Apprenticeship programme and educate graduates to be at the forefront of the profession.

Responsibilities
  • Design, deliver and co‑ordinate high‑quality teaching, assessment, feedback and student support to enable effective learning for Speech and Language Therapy Apprentices on the BSc Speech and Language Therapy Degree Apprenticeship programme and other campus based SLT programmes as required.
  • Support tutees and clinical mentors through the tripartite review process.
  • Support and contribute to the teaching team and ensure consistently high quality teaching, learning and student support.
  • Contribute to the development of programme modules that are accessible, inclusive and contribute to the University’s Teaching and Learning Strategy.
  • Develop and implement ideas for improving own teaching design, delivery and assessment.
  • Play a key role in recruitment activities such as admissions open days/talks and interviews.
  • Develop a portfolio of scholarly activity.
  • Actively contribute to the collective vision, mission and values of the University through individual action and inclusive, collaborative working.
  • Consistently take responsibility for outcomes, provide support to others and make inclusive decisions which together have a demonstrable positive impact within the School.
  • Constructively challenge established practice, structure and process in order to bring about positive change and improved outcomes.
  • Participate in and develop links with external stakeholders and contacts (within academia, NHS England, NHS Speech and Language Therapy services, Independent Speech and Language Therapy services, Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to foster collaboration, at a regional and national level).
  • Make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible.
  • Plan and prioritise your own daily teaching and administrative tasks as well as participate in longer term planning through contribution to policy development.
  • Contribute to the academic life of the School of Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.
