We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive educational setting in Central Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing both academic and behavioural support within the classroom and throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils with SEMH needs on a one-to-one and small-group basis.
Promote positive behaviour and help pupils develop emotional regulation skills.
Build strong, trusting relationships with students who may have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences.
Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities.
Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans.
Contribute to a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
Essential Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people displaying challenging behaviour is essential.
Experience with in SEMH, SEND, alternative provision, youth work, residential care, or similar settings.
Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour management training.
Experience supporting pupils with additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, or attachment difficulties.
