Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs? A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students who need additional help managing their emotions, behaviour and engagement with learning. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will encourage positive relationships, help students overcome barriers to education and contribute to a safe, structured classroom environment where every learner has the opportunity to succeed. Responsibilities:

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs.

• Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation throughout the school day.

• Support students during lessons to improve engagement and confidence.

• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to meet individual support plans.

• Help create a calm, safe and structured learning environment.

• Record and share relevant observations to support student progress.

Requirements:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with additional needs is desirable.

• A calm, patient and empathetic approach.

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

• The ability to remain resilient in challenging situations.

• A genuine commitment to supporting young people's wellbeing and education.

• Experience with in education, care, youth work or similar settings is advantageous.

• Have the right to work in the UK.

• Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

• Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
