About the RoleThe position is term‑time only, working 40 weeks per year. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Personal Tutor to support learners aged 14‑16 who attend college as part of their education package. This includes young people still on roll with school but attending for part of the week, as well as students who access the college as part of their educational package while being home‑educated.
As a Personal Tutor, you will play a key role in helping these learners successfully transition into a college environment. You will help them develop confidence, resilience and the behaviours expected in further education and the workplace. A key aspect will involve attendance monitoring, transition support and progress review.
Responsibilities- Support the delivery and recording of the academy’s interview, enrolment and induction processes, as directed by the Head of Student Experience.
- Provide and record late induction for appropriate students on agreed college electronic systems.
- Ensure student starting points, including qualifications on entry and diagnostic assessments, are accurately recorded, shared and effectively utilised to support progress.
- Record target and aspirational grades discussed and agreed with all allocated academy students.
- Contribute to student progress against recorded starting points and target grades by working with curriculum teams to implement, monitor and update appropriate pastoral interventions.
- Complete Right Choice Reviews for appropriate students, recording completion on agreed systems.
- Signpost allocated academy students to careers support and guidance; refer through the Right Choice Review process to the Head of Student Experience for managed internal transfers.
- Complete and record further pastoral 1:1s with allocated academy students, assessing pastoral risk and engaging the Student Mentor where risk is high.
- Ensure all allocated academy students’ wider support needs are met, referring them to support teams as required.
- Deliver 800‑830 hours of high‑quality student contact time through a mix of mandatory group tutorials, 1:1s and small group tutorials.
- Maintain high student attendance at group tutorial sessions and enrichment events, meeting college and academy attendance targets.
- Plan and embed bespoke academy enrichment activities that meet student needs, utilising cross‑college resources.
- Support the Academy in facilitating a ‘student‑first culture’ by listening and responding effectively to students and supporting the selection of student representatives.
- Ensure robust parent/carer liaison and communication, supporting open events and parent/carer consultation meetings and evenings.
- Complete internal progression processes to ensure all allocated academy students have an agreed progression destination.
Salary of £33,160 – £37,283 per annum (pro‑rated for term‑time weeks worked).
