Here at Sheffield Hallam University we are recruiting for a Lecturer in Social Work with specialist children and families social work expertise to teach across undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD programmes.

As a Social Work Lecturer within our lively and committed team, you’ll contribute to the teaching, learning and assessment of students on our undergraduate B.A Social Work programme, foundation degree Working with Children Young People and Families, postgraduate and post-qualifying programmes and will have a broad remit across the subject areas such as: child protection and safeguarding, multi-agency working and the current legal and procedural context relevant to working with children and families.

Your role will include teaching preparation and delivery of social work and social care education and research, and will involve leading modules, contributing to dissertation supervision and research and knowledge exchange. You'll also contribute to the development of new and exciting programmes and help to shape the curriculum through your professional experience and your critical, practical and theoretical understanding of social work and social care particularly focussing on children and families social work / social care.

Qualified to degree level or equivalent, you will be registered with Social Work England (SWE) and have substantial post-qualifying social work experience. This is an excellent opportunity to further your career in a higher education setting and would be suitable for those wishing to move into higher education.

Whilst higher education teaching is not essential you will have experience of planning and delivering teaching or training and the ability to work as part of a team, as well as individually, along with experience of practice learning, for example as a practice educator.

Essentially, you will have well-developed communication and organisational skills, alongside a commitment to anti-oppressive practice. Evidence of a contribution to knowledge in your field and an interest in developing your own research interests would be an advantage.

Located within our College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences, the Social Work subject group is committed to a programme of inter-professional learning, and you will join our staff members in actively contributing to teaching and research across the social work/social care agenda, both nationally and internationally.

The University currently enrols eligible academic staff into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), a defined-benefit pension scheme.

Further details on TPS can be found here .

If you’re a member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly before joining us, you can choose to remain in USS instead.
