Connex Education is looking for dedicated SEN Support Teaching Assistants to support pupils across primary and secondary schools. This SEN support role in Sheffield is ideal for someone with proven experience, patience and resilience who wants to make a genuine difference to children and young people with additional needs.

As an SEN Support Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support to pupils who need additional help to access learning and thrive in school. You may work closely with an individual pupil or support small groups, helping children and young people develop confidence, independence and communication skills.

In primary settings, support may focus on academic, social and emotional development. In secondary settings, you may support pupils across different subjects and year groups, helping them stay engaged while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with special educational needs.
• Support pupils to access classroom learning, activities and school routines.
• Work alongside teachers and SENCOs to follow individual education and support plans.
• Help pupils develop confidence, independence, communication and positive learning behaviours.
• Adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs where appropriate.
• Support pupils during lessons, transitions, break times and wider school activities.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive environment in line with school policies.

• Proven experience supporting children or young people with SEN is essential.
• Experience with needs such as autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, learning difficulties, sensory needs, physical disabilities or complex needs.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach when supporting pupils through challenges.
• Strong relationship‑building skills and the ability to communicate effectively with school staff.
• Adaptability, empathy and a positive approach to recognising progress.
• Reliability and confidence working within school safeguarding, behaviour and SEN policies.
• Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory references.
