About the role
Waterman Group is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Structures team, working on a diverse portfolio of building structures projects across the residential, commercial, mixed-use, retail, education and industrial sectors
.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer (typically 5–10 years’ experience
) who is nearing chartership or recently chartered and is looking to take the next step in their career within a collaborative, multidisciplinary consultancy.
- Lead and deliver structural designs for building projects from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
- Carry out structural analysis and design of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber structures.
- Prepare and review calculations, technical reports, and specifications in accordance with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry best practice.
- Coordinate designs with architects, building services engineers, and other disciplines within the wider Waterman Group.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
- Respond to site queries and support projects through construction.
- Attend design team, client, and site meetings as required.
- Contribute to quality assurance, technical reviews, and internal design checks.
- Support bid preparation, fee proposals, and business development activities where appropriate.
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Typically 5–10 years’ experience in a consultancy environment, focused on building structures
. - Strong experience delivering projects across a range of building sectors.
- Solid understanding of UK design standards and codes (Eurocodes, British Standards).
- Confident working independently and leading elements of projects.
- Experience using structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, Tekla Tedds, Robot, SAP
2000, or similar. - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Working towards chartership or recently chartered with ICE or IStruct
E (preferred).
