The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Quality Engineer to join a well-established foundry operation based in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and improving quality standards within a high-volume casting and metallurgical manufacturing environment.
The business supplies precision cast components into demanding sectors including engineering, automotive, rail and industrial markets, where compliance, traceability and process control are critical.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and develop the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 standards
Lead internal and external audits, including customer and third-party audits
Conduct root cause analysis (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone) and drive corrective & preventive actions
Support foundry process control including melting, moulding, casting and finishing operations
Oversee metallurgical and dimensional inspection processes
Manage non-conformance, concession and customer complaint processes
Work closely with production, metallurgy and engineering teams to reduce scrap and improve yield
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the foundry
Maintain quality documentation, control plans, PFMEA and inspection plans
Liaise directly with customers on technical quality matters
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience as a Quality Engineer within a foundry or castings environment
Strong understanding of metallurgical processes and casting defects
Experience with ISO 9001 (IATF 16949 advantageous)
Competent in root cause analysis methodologies
Experience with dimensional inspection techniques and CMM (advantageous)
Knowledge of NDT processes (MPI, DPI, UT desirable)
Strong analytical mindset with a hands-on approach on the shop floor
Ability to communicate effectively across production and management teams
Qualifications
HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science or related discipline (preferred)
Internal Auditor qualification (advantageous)
