A leading energy and industrial operations organisation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to support mechanical reliability and maintenance excellence at its Rye House site. The company operates across multiple UK locations, delivering safe and dependable power solutions while supporting long‑term energy transition goals.
The RoleThis role involves carrying out all mechanical maintenance activities on site – from planning and supervising contractors to creating method statements and risk assessments, as well as performing hands‑on maintenance work. The successful candidate will ensure the safe, reliable operation of critical mechanical systems, support major outages, and contribute to ongoing improvements in plant performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Prepare, oversee, and manage mechanical maintenance contracts.
- Act under site safety rules as Competent Person or Authorised Person.
- Deliver best practice in mechanical maintenance execution.
- Supervise contractors during major outages and plant work.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and recommend corrective actions.
- Support 24/7 maintenance activities for reliable plant performance.
- Contribute to process safety objectives.
- Assist with budgets, cost‑control, and procurement processes.
- Support inspections and overhauls at various sites as required.
- Perform hands‑on mechanical maintenance.
- Collaborate effectively with suppliers, contractors, and site teams.
- Travel to other company locations occasionally.
- Essential:
- Mechanical maintenance experience in power generation or heavy industry.
- HNC level education or equivalent.
- Confident with computer‑based systems.
- Strong understanding of safety and environmental regulations.
- Team‑working abilities and cross‑discipline coordination.
- Experience in contract management and budgeting.
- Self‑motivated, flexible, and committed to developing skills.
- Desirable:
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a process industry environment.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Good time‑management skills and ability to prioritise under pressure.
- Rational and positive approach to analysing and solving problems.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Open to learning, developing, and supporting continuous improvement.
- Demonstrates strong ethical and safety‑focused behaviour.
