Arup’s Maritime business is experiencing significant growth across the UK and beyond, with an annual 10-20% annual growth rate projected to continue. Our project pipeline spans coastal resilience and engineering, port development for the energy sector, passenger transport, defence and more.

The

We are seeking a Senior Maritime Civil Engineer to join the Energy, Water and Resources team in our Liverpool office or in one of our other offices across the UK North. This is an opportunity to join our team and deliver technical solutions across a wide range of projects. You will work with colleagues with a particular focus on coastal engineering and maritime and ports projects.

This is an exciting time of change and via your work you will be able to positively influence the shaping of coastal schemes, flood protections and port developments. A willingness to learn and grow is essential in this fast‑growing area of work.

You will have the opportunity to work across all stages of the project lifecycle, from advisory services and concept design for clients at the early stages of project inception, through to detailed design and construction phase support. In the role you will have the opportunity to directly work with a wide range of internal and external collaborators and stakeholders, including thought leaders in their fields.

Typical clients you will work with include government agencies, local councils, port owners/operators, financial institutions, contractors and public sector bodies.

Responsibilities
  • Delivery of project work from early concept design through to detailed design and construction support activities.
  • Technical leadership and delivery of civil / maritime engineering designs, calculations, models, reports and drawings.
  • Project design management and delivery, including ensuring high quality technical design and reporting.
  • Project commercial management including monitoring progress and costs against programme and budget.
  • Team planning and resourcing requirements and management of deliverables through active collaboration with supporting disciplines.
Is this role right for you?
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (BEng/MEng/MSc).
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership.
  • Experience in coastal, maritime, or offshore engineering projects (e.g., breakwaters, flood defences, quay walls, jetties, dredging, scour protection).
  • Experience producing technical documentation (reports, calculations, drawings, specifications).
  • Knowledge of physical modelling and metocean / wave / sediment transport analysis.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
  • Ability to manage small projects or work packages and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Interest in delivering maritime and port infrastructure projects.

Applicants with high-quality transferable experience from civil engineering projects in other sectors are encouraged to apply.
