This established specialist in embedded systems, display technologies, connectivity products, and electronic solutions is seeking an Electronics Design & Applications Engineer to join their expanding engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic engineer looking to work across a diverse range of technologies while contributing to innovative customer solutions from concept through to implementation.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in the design and development of custom electronic hardware, embedded systems, and evaluation platforms, whilst providing technical support to customers across a broad range of industries including industrial automation, medical, transportation, defence, instrumentation, and advanced technology sectors.

This is a highly varied position that combines hardware design, PCB development, applications engineering, customer support, and project coordination. You will work closely with customers, suppliers, and internal sales and engineering teams to develop practical, commercially successful solutions that solve real-world engineering challenges.

The role is ideally suited to a hands‑on electronics engineer who enjoys technical problem‑solving, takes ownership of projects, and is equally comfortable designing hardware in the lab as they are supporting customers throughout the product development journey. If you’re looking to broaden your technical expertise while working within a collaborative, engineering‑led business where your contributions make a tangible impact, this is an excellent opportunity to accelerate your career.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design electronic schematics and PCB layouts for embedded systems, interface boards, and bespoke hardware solutions.
  • Select appropriate electronic components, create Bills of Materials (BOMs), and produce supporting technical documentation.
  • Assemble, test, and debug prototype hardware, carrying out component‑level fault finding where required.
  • Develop and support hardware designs incorporating embedded systems and display technologies.
  • Provide technical support to customers integrating embedded platforms, displays, connectivity products, and associated electronic solutions into their applications.
  • Design and build demonstration units, evaluation platforms, and test equipment to support product development and customer projects.
  • Deliver technical support via phone, email, video conferencing, and occasional customer site visits.
  • Collaborate closely with the Sales Team to understand customer requirements and develop practical technical solutions.
  • Support engineering projects from concept through to completion, ensuring milestones and deliverables are achieved.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, technical records, and Bills of Materials.
  • Monitor product lifecycle changes and engineering updates to ensure designs remain current.
  • Liaise with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and internal departments to support successful project delivery.
  • Assist with technical investigations, product testing, and customer return analysis.
  • Support compliance, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering function.
  • Provide general engineering and technical support to colleagues across the wider business as required.
Requirements
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 2–5 years’ experience within electronics, embedded systems, or a related engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and hardware debugging.
  • Experience using PCB design tools such as Altium, KiCad, OrCAD, or similar.
  • Ability to fault‑find to component level using standard laboratory test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of embedded C/C++ and Linux‑based embedded platforms.
  • Understanding of embedded communication protocols including I²C, SPI, UART, CAN Bus, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with display technologies, embedded systems, connectivity products, or evaluation platforms would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to support customers and collaborate across engineering and sales teams.
  • Self‑motivated, organised, and proactive, with excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • A hands‑on engineer with a genuine passion for technology and a desire to continuously learn and develop.
