Working alongside an experienced team, serving all of our 7 UK offices on projects across the UK, you will get involved with a wide variety of geotechnical and land contamination projects covering sectors including energy, infrastructure, development/regeneration projects and local authorities.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:- Undertaking Preliminary Risk Assessments (Phase 1 Desk Studies) and intrusive site investigations in line with national standards and codes of practice
- Planning and managing Phase 2 Investigations, including health and safety aspects, compliance with CDM requirements, and procuring sub-contractors
- Managing fieldwork activities including supervising drilling and excavation works, undertaking gas and groundwater monitoring, and groundwater and surface water sampling. You will be logging both soil and rock and carrying out in-situ testing
- Geotechnical design to include slope stability and settlement analysis
- Supervision of remedial and earthworks projects, liaising with Contractors to ensure works are executed in line with an approved specification
- Scheduling soil, rock and water samples for chemical and geotechnical laboratory testing
- Splitting your time between site works and office time with occasional requirements to stay away from home for more distant projects
- Writing factual and interpretative reports, preparing earthworks specifications and remediation strategies, and validation reports on completion of such works
- Supporting Managers in the production of fee proposals and quotation documents
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team
You will be required to plan your work in a structured manner, working with colleagues in addressing peaks and troughs in resource demand, and help to prioritise project delivery.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:- You should be proactive, self-motivated, enthusiastic and an engaging team player
- A bachelor's degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related subject (a master's degree would be an advantage).
- 7 to 10 years of relevant work experience (willing to accept fewer for the right candidate)
- Knowledge of the requirements of CDM and site management
- Experience supervising a full range of investigation techniques, including management of subcontractors and on site safety
- Track record in supervising and validating earthworks projects, and a track record of managing contractor activities on site to ensure compliance with the approved specification
- Experience of assessing, investigating and treating shallow mine workings
- Ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise work load
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible and adaptive
- Skilled with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word and Excel
- Membership of, and working towards chartership with, a relevant professional body
- Effective communication abilities, both written and verbal, to engage with clients and team members
- Full UK manual driving licence and own vehicle for business purposes essential
- SMSTS
- Knowledge of Open Ground logging software
