Shillito Group are recruiting for an Engineering Manager to join an established engineering business designing and manufacturing specialist products for hazardous and demanding environments.
This is a true hands on leadership role.
They need someone who can lead the engineering team, take ownership of product development and get involved in the detail when needed.
A big part of the role is hazardous area compliance, so experience with ATEX, IECEx or similar standards is going to matter.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading and developing the engineering team
- Taking ownership of product development projects from concept through to launch
- Designing and developing new products around customer and market requirements
- Managing product certification and keeping existing approvals compliant
- Working with standards including ATEX, IECEx, UKEX and other international approvals
- Arranging product testing and working through technical or certification issues
- Supporting Sales with more complex customer requirements
- Working closely with Production and Quality to make sure products can be manufactured properly
- Producing and approving technical drawings and product documentation
- Driving improvements across engineering processes and product development
They are looking for someone with a strong engineering background who has worked around product design, development or R&D. The original specification specifically asks for experience of product design, development or R&D project management within hazardous areas, alongside experience working to regulatory standards.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience with hazardous area products or equipment
- Knowledge of ATEX, IECEx, UKEX or similar certification standards
- Product design and development experience
- Experience leading, mentoring or managing engineers
- A good understanding of electrical engineering principles
- Experience using Solid Works, AutoCAD or similar design software
- Experience with in manufacturing, oil and gas, petrochemical, process, marine or another regulated engineering environment
- Some knowledge of CNC machinery would be useful, but it is not essential
You do not necessarily need to already have the title Engineering Manager.
A strong Lead Engineer, Principal Engineer, Technical Manager or Design Manager with the right technical background could be just as relevant.
Salary is up to £60,000 depending on experience. Flexible start and finish hours as well.
