Business Director - Global Legal, Risk and Compliance
Location: London
Contract: Permanent or 6‑month contract (day rate or fixed‑term, 4 days a week)
This role operates as a generalist compliance manager for a London Market insurance carrier. Reporting directly to the Head of Compliance
, the incumbent is the number‑two in the function, covering sanctions, licensing, regulatory risk, compliance framework, and other wide responsibilities.
- Manage and operate the Regulatory Compliance Framework across the business
- Conduct regulatory risk assessments and review policies and procedures
- Develop and deliver the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan and Compliance Training Plan
- Provide compliance support to the business, including regulatory advice and interpretation
- Oversee broker onboarding, due diligence and ongoing monitoring
- Manage complaints reporting and support sanctions screening and reviews
- Support licensing activities and regulatory filings as required
- Assist with Lloyd’s Oversight Principles self‑assessments and wider compliance projects
- Act as a key deputy to the Head of Compliance, supporting day‑to‑day leadership of the function
- Proven compliance experience within the London Market, ideally with a Lloyd’s syndicate, MGA or insurance carrier
- Lloyd’s of London market experience is essential
- Background in an insurer, MGA or carrier environment is strongly preferred (not broking)
- Strong generalist compliance knowledge across conduct, regulatory compliance and financial crime
- Experience with sanctions and licensing highly desirable
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating closely with senior stakeholders
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to advise the business
- Relevant professional qualifications and a strong academic background
- People management or mentoring experience desirable but not essential
- Solid MS Word skills;
SharePoint experience is an advantage
