Job responsibilitiesReporting to the Finance Business Partner, responsibilities include:
- Produce high‑quality, timely Cost Centre Reports in line with policies and procedures.
- Ensure complete and accurate data input, audit‑ready—analyzing payroll, purchase ledger, sales ledger, etc.
- Collaborate with budget managers to analyze performance variances and support planning for directorates.
- Liaise on payroll matters, providing accurate staffing costs and maintaining updated staff in‑post lists.
- Respond to ad‑hoc financial analyses for budgeting, costing, skill mix reviews, and recruitment planning.
- Support improvement schemes and business case development, including historic service costs and new development alignment with NHS priorities.
- Provide training, education, and financial awareness to budget managers, ensuring compliance with Trust financial instructions.
- Ability to meet deadlines through effective organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to undertake highly complex analysis producing results of material consequence.
- Understanding and interpretation skills needed for a technical advisory role.
- Good presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to openness, honesty, inclusiveness & personal integrity.
- Knowledge of key NHS financial performance targets and funding regime.
- Highly computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Good communication and verbal reasoning skills.
- Understanding the need to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage competing and changing workloads.
- Proactive, creative, flexible, able to work on own initiative and take responsibility.
- Commitment to work through the competency framework of skills and behaviours.
- Experience or knowledge of financial procedures and techniques equivalent to AAT.
- Technical or accountant‑level qualification, or actively studying toward a professional accountancy qualification.
- Commitment to commence study of a CCAB finance qualification.
- Recent, relevant experience within a management accounting environment in a large, complex organisation.
- Experience using computerised accounting software.
- Previous NHS finance experience.
- Sound knowledge of costing principles.
- Fit with the Trust’s organisational values.
- Flexibility in working hours, particularly to achieve deadlines for routine financial reporting.
