Finance Assistant

Sewell Wallis is partnering with a high profile South Yorkshire leisure business in their search for a Finance Assistant.

This is a great opportunity for a finance graduate or someone at the early stages of their finance career, ideally with some practical experience gained through a university placement or previous finance role.

Working as part of the finance team, the Finance Assistant will gain broad exposure to the day-to-day running of the accounts function, while also supporting the collation and reporting of management information and key performance indicators (KPIs) across the business.

It's a varied role that will allow you to develop your accounting knowledge, Excel skills and commercial understanding while gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced leisure environment.

What will you be doing?

Supporting the finance team with the day-to-day running of the accounts function.
Collating financial and operational data from across the business.
Helping to produce regular KPI and performance reports.
Assisting with monitoring key leisure metrics such as revenue, membership, customer numbers, utilisation and costs.
Helping to identify trends and variances and ensuring these are highlighted to the wider finance team.
Assisting with the sales ledger, purchase ledger and nominal ledger.
Processing invoices and assisting with supplier and customer queries.
Supporting bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
Assisting with month-end processes, including journals, accruals and prepayments.
Helping to improve processes and reporting as your understanding of the business develops.
Providing general support to the wider finance team and taking on additional responsibilities as your experience grows.

What skills do we need?

A degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related subject would be ideal.
Some practical finance experience, ideally through a year-long university placement, internship or previous finance role.
Good Excel skills and an interest in working with numbers and data.
Strong attention to detail and an organised approach.
Good communication skills and the confidence to work with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
A willingness to learn and develop your finance knowledge.
Able to work to deadlines and manage your workload effectively.
A positive, proactive attitude and a genuine desire to build a career in finance. What's on offer?
