We are seeking to recruit an Environmental Health Officer to help deliver our Environmental Regulation agenda.
Work areas include food safety, food standards, infectious disease related work and private water supplies. Officers are expected to work closely and liaise with a wide range of partner teams and services within and outside the council to help solve wider community issues. The Environmental Health Officer posts are senior technical roles and are expected to cover for the team Principal Officer when required as well as taking on specialist project work, so experience is vital.
We work on a multiyear partnership with an external provider to deliver lower risk food safety visits in Sheffield, so our in‑house team concentrate on higher risk/technical work, projects and training.
We are inviting applications from dedicated and highly motivated Environmental Health Officers who can work on their own initiative, deliver behaviour change in client groups and welcome continuing professional development. We need officers with a passion to make a big difference to public health and business/consumer confidence in the city. We offer a number of chargeable services to individuals and businesses, so candidates must have a strong positive customer care attitude and understand business realities and challenges.
You should possess excellent communication skills and have experience in managing a busy caseload with a strong track record of performance. The ability to offer accurate, concise technical advice and make that relevant for a wide client group is paramount. We encourage officers to develop strong links with partners and industry / government representatives to aid the delivery of improvements in our communities.
Applicants for the Environmental Health Officer post will require a recognised degree or diploma in Environmental Health and a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHORB).

The successful candidate will work in the food safety team so we are looking at candidates that can demonstrate relevant experience and meet the Food Standards Agency Competency Standard to undertake all the range of activities’ typical of a busy, large and varied food safety department.
You must have a full driving licence and be able to travel around the City.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
