We have opportunities to join two of our teams within Homelessness & Supported Housing serviceas aSenior Casework Officer.

We wish to appoint apart time Senior Casework Officerto work in our Private Rented Solutions team, the role will provide support and guidance to the PRS case officers and support the development & growth of the provision of private rented tenancies within the wider housing stock available to alleviate homelessness of families and single people in Sheffield.

We are also seeking to appoint a full and part time Senior Casework Officer to strengthen our Rehousing and Homelessness service, with a particular focus on improving the quality, consistency and timeliness of statutory decisions and reviews.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a service that is transforming how we deliver rehousing and homelessness support across Sheffield, ensuring customers receive fair, robust and timely decisions while reducing avoidable costs and uncertainty.

As a Senior Casework Officer, you will undertake complex homelessness and allocations casework, including the review of decisions made under Parts 6 and 7 of the Housing Act.

You will support the service by ensuring that decisions are legally compliant, evidence-based and delivered within statutory timescales. You will also provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues on complex cases, contributing to improved consistency and quality across the service.

This is a key operational role where you will:

  • Carry out statutory reviews of decisions under the Allocations Policy and homelessness legislation (Parts 6 and
    7)
  • Make independent decisions on complex cases and ensure duties are correctlyidentifiedand discharged
  • Ensuretimelydecision-making to reduce the need for prolonged temporary accommodation and associated costs
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to Casework Officers and wider service staff
  • Contribute to complaint investigations and learning
  • Develop and improve procedures, contributing to policy reviews and service development
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams,partners and stakeholders to improve outcomes for customers
  • You will alsomaintaina small caseload of complex cases, ensuring customers receive a high-quality, strength-based service that supports prevention and sustainable housing outcomes.
  • We are looking for experienced housing professionals with a passion for delivering high-quality,fairand consistent services.

You will have:

  • Strong knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation, particularly Parts 6 and 7 of the Housing Act
  • Experience of managing complex casework and making legally robust decisions
  • The ability to interpret legislation, policy and guidance and apply this in practice
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex decisions clearly to customers
  • Experience of supporting colleagues and contributing to service improvement
  • You will be confident working in a fast-paced environment, managing competing demands and making sound, evidence-based decisions in challenging situations.
  • This is a key role within our service redesign, helping to strengthen decision-making, improve consistency and ensure we deliver fair outcomes for residents.
