Investigation Officers for Operation Beacon port, investigations selected nationally for further review into group-based child sexual exploitation and abuse between .

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, collect and gather material, intelligence and evidence from a range of sources that are appropriate to the nature of the investigation.
  • Identify and conduct investigative actions, taking into account resources, priorities, and proportionality to achieve investigatory objectives.
  • Complete risk assessments in order to assess threat, risk and harm. Develop and implement plans and strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Interview victims, witnesses in a manner appropriate to their needs and gather all required information, intelligence and evidence in relation to serious and complex investigations in accordance with PIP2/ABE investigative standards.
  • Interview suspects in custody/voluntary environment.
  • Record investigative progress and gathered material in a format that is evidentially admissible to support the investigative process on SYP systems.
  • Liaise with CPS pre/post charge and attend court to support victims and witnesses. Give evidence in court where required.
  • Undertake tasks associated to designated powers in accordance with legislation and policy.
  • Prepare for and participate in multi-agency meetings/case conferences, providing accurate and relevant information
  • Support and assist colleagues in undertaking investigations as required and directed by senior officer/line manager.
Skills and Experience
  • Have proven PIP2 accreditation which is maintained in line with accreditation requirements.
  • Must hold a full manual driving licence.
  • A detailed understanding of the criminal justice system and associated processes.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to listen, empathise, provide support and adapt language, form, and message to meet the needs of different people / audiences.
  • Must be over 18.
  • Proficient in range of IT packages, systems and/or databases to fulfil role requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team to achieve shared objectives, demonstrating awareness of individual differences and providing input, support and advice as required
  • Able to produce clear and concise reports and other documents within best practice procedures.
  • Able to proactively develop effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Able to work to deadlines and take direction from supervisors/line managers.

Permanent Investigation Officers (PIP2) may be moved to a different role/location at the need of the organisation.
