Specialist Palliative Care Physiotherapist

As a Specialist Palliative Care Physiotherapist at St Lukes Hospice, you will provide high quality, person-centred assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for adults with complex palliative care needs. Working across our InPatient Centre, outpatient services and community settings, you will help patients maintain independence, achieve meaningful goals and optimise quality of life. This senior role involves autonomous clinical practice, advanced communication skills, and active participation within the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, holistic care.

duties of the job

You will deliver specialist physiotherapy assessments and tailored rehabilitation plans, using advanced clinical reasoning and a wide range of therapeutic techniques appropriate for palliative care. Duties include equipment assessment and referral, moving and handling guidance, contribution to MDT meetings, safe discharge planning, and providing expert advice to colleagues and external professionals. You will support Physiotherapy Assistants, contribute to service development, maintain accurate records, and uphold high professional and clinical standards across all hospice services.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities include delivering specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment, formulating personalised rehabilitation plans, advising on moving and handling, coordinating care with the MDT, supporting discharge planning, and assessing for equipment or wheelchair needs. You will maintain high professional standards, contribute to service improvement, supervise support staff, and communicate sensitively with patients and families. The role requires autonomous practice, evidence based clinical decision making and strong teamwork across all hospice services.
