Systemic Family Psychotherapist

The closing date is 15 March 2026

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Systemic Family Psychotherapist to join our Getting Risk Support (GRS) team within Dorset CAMHS. This specialist role supports children, young people and families experiencing high levels of distress and complex needs, whose difficulties are best met within the THRIVE Getting Risk Support quadrant.

You will be part of a collaborative, compassionate multidisciplinary team working closely with CAMHS colleagues and wider partners including social care, education, paediatrics, and voluntary organisations. Your systemic expertise will help enhance safety, stabilisation and therapeutic outcomes for some of our most vulnerable young people.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Applications from candidates that require current Skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are unfortunately ineligible to apply for this position.

This is a pan Dorset role requiring travel to different sites. The service is undergoing transformation and temporary bases may apply during transition.

The post may require flexible or extended hours as part of future service developments.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist systemic assessments, formulations and short term interventions for CYP and families experiencing significant distress and risk.

You will deliver systemic family therapy in line with AFT guidelines and evidence based practice, including approaches such as NVR and FFT.

You will contribute to safety planning, risk management and multiagency care planning.

You will offer consultation, supervision and advice to colleagues in a range of partner agencies, including acute hospitals, social care and education.

You will work collaboratively as part of the wider CAMHS systemic therapy pathway.

You will participate in audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives and support ongoing development and transformation of the GRS pathway.

Job responsibilities

For the main duties and responsibilities for this role please read the attached job description and person specification. When completing your application please ensure your supporting statement reflects the criteria set out in these documents by showing how your experience and skills apply to this post.

We understand that using AI can be a useful and supportive tool when completing your application. However, we have also seen an increase in the over-reliance of AI tools which is negatively impacting applications as they remove candidates individuality, and it becomes much harder to get a sense of who you are and your authentic experience. If you do use AI, it should be used to enhance your application and not to create your supporting statement in its entirety.

If we suspect you have used AI to create your supporting statement and this does not match your experience, we may withdraw your application.

As part of our vision to have a skilled, diverse and caring workforce, Dorset Health Care offers support for people getting into work. We offer an employability service to support individuals with application writing, interview skills and other employment support.
